Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S: Autofocus. The lens autofocuses in a spritely manner in good light and signs of it hunting for focus were only observed when it was used in an extremely dim indoor setting. Nikon Z5, Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S, 1/500sec at f/2.8, ISO 100. I assigned the L-Fn2 button to perform AF-ON for a majority of my testing
My 24-70 2.8 S for the Z7 arrived Thursday at my local store YM Camera in Youngstown Ohio. Nikon hit it out of the park with this one. The focus is unbelievably fast and the images are tack sharp throughout the the zoom range. At F2.8 indoors low light the corners and edges perfect. Outdoors it preforms perfectly.
If you don't mind putting a big lens on the Z, an adapted AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR will scratch the f/2.8 itch while you wait for Nikon to release the native Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S, which is

The Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S lens marks the first “serious” telephoto lens in Nikon’s still relatively new full-frame mirrorless system. Although there is also a 24-200mm “superzoom” lens, this one is more squarely aimed at professionals and high-end enthusiasts thanks to its superior design and maximum wide aperture (f/2.8). Well
Here is how both compare at 24mm: Here is the comparison between the two when we zoom in to 70mm: In short, the Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G VR does not stand a chance against the Nikon 24-120mm f/4G VR at shorter focal lengths. At 70mm, the 24-120mm starts dropping in sharpness in the center, but still outperforms in the mid-frame and corners.
