On the Safari I used the 500PF for the long end and the Z 70-200 with 1.4 and 2X TC's as needed. It filled the focal length range, but swapping out TC's while the action is in progress is a real problem. I now have the 100-400 for the next time around. Peter. You will want the larger aperture under those conditions. The 100-400 is more useful for outdoor sports and wildlife, although 400mm isn't really long enough for small birds.
